Supreet Jayanna Bargi, an award winning (DOP) Director of Photography is based in Toronto, Canada. He regularly covered news and documentary for over eight years from New Delhi, India for international media outlets, such as VICE News, Al-Jazeera, DW and BBC. His work includes political conflict, humanitarian crises, human rights, and migration in the region. Supreet’s work for VICE News Showtime won a DuPont-Columbia award and two Emmy nominations in 2021 & 2022.

A self-taught photographer, Supreet has been working with the moving image, combining film
with photography since 2011. In addition to freelancing as the Director of Photography (DOP)
for international and national news agencies, government bodies, non-governmental
organizations, corporate marketing, and PR teams, he is also an established documentary
street, culture and adventure photographer.

Supreet’s journey as a photographer began with exploring the verdant forests of Nilgiris and
soaking in the rich culture of Mysore, his home, famously depicted in R.K Narayan’s folklore
stories. He experimented at home with technology and the art of film. Finding himself flourishing at the
intersection of technology, photography, art, and journalism, he trained as a mass communication graduate
at one of India’s leading journalism schools, Manipal Institute of Communications.

However, the pursuit of a perspective, aesthetic and technique informed by first-hand
experiences, landed him in New Delhi, in the unconventional world of Pablo Bartholomew, a
globally noted photojournalist. It was under him that he realized great photography results
from a slew of intangibles - an ability to navigate oneself through situations, unfold them
before they actually do and be prepared.

I possess a detailed working knowledge of a wide range of production gear, including Sony FX9 Canon C300 MK1/2, Sony FS7 II, A7S 2 and XDCAM cameras, DSLRs, Drone, sound, lighting, gimbals including the Ronin S,MX,R2, Osmo RAW and other rigging accessories. Filming Live TV using AVIWEST on ground and in studio.
